Whilst ballet is intended as an enjoyable hobby that builds confidence and social skills to list but a few, it also requires a level of discipline. Wearing the correct uniform is part of the discipline of dance and the etiquette of ballet.
It is also important to be able to see student’s bodies, enabling the teacher to see if they are achieving correct posture and alignment; both are fundamental in classical ballet to enable students to progress and succeed.
Jewellery
For health and safety, jewellery should not be worn. Exceptions will be made for jewellery worn for religious or cultural reasons, but this must be highlighted to the teacher in advance to ensure any additional risk is accommodated.
Hair
Hair should be neat and tidy; from Grade 1 upwards a ballet bun is required.
Clothing/Uniform
Once new students have tried a class or two and have decided that they want to commit to attending regularly, then the correct RAD regulation uniform is required to be worn.
The uniform covers several Grades, so you do not need to buy new leotards each time your child moves up into a new class. In addition, if your child takes an exam or moves up into the next class where uniform requirements change it is not necessary to buy the new regulation leotard if your child already owns an old regulation leotard that still fits them.
Please Note: Regulation leotards are required for exams and any child wishing to take an exam will need the correct RAD approved regulation leotard. I will not enter your child into an examination session without the correct uniform.
Uniform can be purchased through me, please just email me your requirements.
I am happy for you to source your own uniform but please make sure you are buying the correct RAD regulation uniform (see table below for descriptions so you can check with suppliers prior to purchase).
I would like to add that I do not want to discourage anyone from coming to ballet who may be financially impacted when purchasing new uniform. If you feel this applies to you then please get in contact with me so we can work together to find a solution.
If you would like to discuss this further, then please do contact me.
Below is a uniform requirement for each class:
