Observance of the following rules and the Terms and Conditions is implicit in the acceptance of a place in the school.
The school reserves the right to refuse entry to classes if these rules are not complied with.
New Students
New students will be offered an initial free of charge lesson to ensure they are happy with the lesson structure and teaching. Parents/guardians are welcome to observe the first lesson.
Fees
The fee structure is calculated as an average across a full academic year to reduce administrative costs and lower overall fees charged. Some terms may be 10, 11, or 12 weeks in duration but will be charged at a flat termly fee.
All fees must be paid within 4 weeks from the invoice date. Fees are non-returnable; there are no reductions or refunds for missed classes under any circumstances (including injury, sickness or holidays).
A £5 administration fee will be added to all accounts if it is necessary for the school to send a reminder regarding the payment of fees.
The school offers a 10% discounted term fee for joining siblings once a full term of the new sibling has been completed. Please note: If a fees reminder is sent then the sibling discount will be forfeit for the term.
If anyone has difficulty paying fees within the prescribed 4 weeks from invoice date please contact the Principal at the earliest possible opportunity to agree a temporary adjusted payment schedule. The payment schedule will be considered for parents/guardians under financial pressure only and cannot be offered to all pupils.
In the event of bad weather, the School will do everything possible to ensure that classes are not disrupted. However, if the venue is closed or it is deemed too dangerous to hold the lesson fees will not be refunded; pupils will be offered an alternative lesson to replace the cancelled class.
This does not affect your statutory rights, but once the term has started, if you decide to withdraw at any time for any reason you will still remain liable for the full cost of the term and no refund will be provided.
Clothing/Uniform
Once new students have already attended a taster class and have decided that they want to commit to attending regularly, then the correct RAD regulation uniform is required to be worn.
The uniform covers several Grades, so you do not need to buy new leotards each time your child moves up into a new class. In addition, if your child takes an exam or moves up into the next class where uniform requirements change it is not necessary to buy the new regulation leotard if your child already owns an old regulation leotard that still fits them.
Please Note: Regulation leotards are required for exams and any child wishing to take an exam will need the correct RAD approved regulation leotard. Your child will not be entered into an examination session without the correct uniform.
Uniform can be purchased through Marlborough Dance Studios, please email your requirements. You are permitted to source your own uniform but please make sure you are buying the correct RAD regulation uniform.
Marlborough Dance Studios do not want to discourage anyone from coming to ballet who may be financially impacted when purchasing new uniform. If you feel this applies to you then please get in contact with the Principal so we can work together to find a solution.
Dance shoes must not be worn outside.
Jewellery
For health and safety, jewellery should not be worn. Exceptions will be made for jewellery worn for religious or cultural reasons, but this must be highlighted to the teacher in advance to ensure any additional risk is accommodated.
For examinations all earrings must be removed. If the earrings cannot be removed for Cultural or Religious reasons then they must be covered with suitable plasters.
Hair
Hair should be neat and tidy; from Grade 1 upwards a ballet bun is required.
Examinations
Examinations are not compulsory. Children will be entered for examinations at the discretion of the Principal and in consultation with their parent or guardian.
For those students taking examinations it is essential that for the term of the examination two lessons are attended each week. These will be charged in accordance with the prevailing class rate.
It is important that students attend all classes in the lead up to an examination; if students attend insufficient classes to obtain the required level of knowledge to successfully pass an examination the Principal may remove the student from the examination session mid-term. An attendance warning will be given in advance of withdrawal to give the parent/guardian an opportunity to correct the situation accordingly. Regrettably, due to costs incurred fees will not be refunded in this circumstance.
Examination Fees include payment to the RAD only and Marlborough Dance Studios do not retain any fees associated with the examination entry fee. The prevailing RAD Examination entry fees can be found on their website www.royalacademyofdance.org
Physical Contact
Teaching classical ballet is a physical activity and appropriate physical contact between students and teachers in class is essential to ballet training. Teachers may make physical contact with a student to adjust a student’s alignment. Marlborough Dance Studios recognises that such physical contact is a potentially complex area; and the school also fully recognises its responsibilities for safeguarding students and teachers and for protecting their welfare.
The following principles and procedures are in place to fulfil the school’s obligations:
a) Contact by the teacher is made with awareness of the needs of each individual, to assist the dancer in correcting placement.
b) All teachers will treat any physical contact with due sensitivity, care, dignity, respect, and with due regard for the wishes of the student and their welfare.
When physical contact is made it will be in response to the student’s needs, it will be of limited duration and appropriate to their age, stage of development, gender, ethnicity, and ability.
c) Contact will not involve force or the use of any instrument.
d) Students should be encouraged to discuss any worries with the Principal and their parent/guardian.
e) Parents/Guardians are encouraged to raise concerns with the Principal at the earliest opportunity.
Behaviour
The school prides itself on creating a safe and inclusive environment, therefore it is expected that the students treat their peers and the teachers with respect.
Parents should ensure that children are punctual for classes and are collected promptly at the end of classes by a parent. You must notify the teacher at the start of the class if someone else will be collecting your child.
Students must follow all school rules and instructions and a failure to do so will result in a breach of these terms and conditions.
Disruptive, disrespectful or antisocial behaviour, in, on or around the premises will not be tolerated (whether before, during or after classes) and we reserve the right to exclude that student on a temporary or permanent basis in our sole discretion and no refund will be applicable.
If you have any problems with your child being disciplined during their time with Marlborough Dance Studios, it is essential that you bring this to the Principal, Laura Broomham, immediately.
General
In the event of an accident or extreme illness and parents cannot be contacted, we are in loco parentis and we will call an ambulance unless we have received specific advice to the contrary from parents.
Students are advised to stay hydrated and may bring water to classes, however, no food or drink of any other kind is permitted inside the school unless prior consent has been given.
Students under the age of 11 years old must be dropped off and collected by a parent or guardian at the classroom entrance. Students under the age of 11 will not be released from the classroom without parent/guardian attendance.
Parents are not permitted to watch classes, with the exception being your child’s first lesson/taster session. To enable parents/guardians to observe their child’s progress there are opportunities to view classes at Watching Weeks which are nominally held at the end each full term. The dates and times of watching weeks will be communicated during the prevailing term.
If a student needs to take any of their own medication (whether self-administered or otherwise) whilst at the School we ask that parents be available to administer the medication unless otherwise previously agreed with us. In any event, we cannot be held liable and accept no responsibility for administering such medication (and/or the effects of the same) and the students’ parent/guardian takes full responsibility.
The school reserves the right to change timetables, staff, and also parent viewing days if deemed absolutely necessary.
Limitation of Liability & Disclaimer
By entering into these Terms and Conditions you hereby waive and release the School from all claims arising from injury of any manner resulting from participation in a class other than as a direct result of our negligence.
Where relevant the child or their parents or guardians should seek medical advice before carrying out any exercise or in relation to the suitability of the class and we cannot be held liable for any claim as a result of attendance where unsuitable.
We accept no responsibility and cannot be held accountable for any loss or damage of personal belongings or property whilst attending a class or on the premises.
Nothing in these terms and conditions shall in any way limit liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation or for personal injury caused by its negligence, or any other liability which cannot be excluded at law and your statutory rights are in no way affected.
